Admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) is via a competitive exam that is launched each year. And each year, the NDA admits 175 new students (155 males and 20 females) into the Regular Combatant Course.

There are certain requirements for you to be eligible for entry and here we will be telling you all you need to know.

About the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) was established on 5 February 1964 in response to the Defence needs of independent Nigeria to train officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Before then, the institution was known as the Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC). After independence in 1960, it became known as the Nigerian Military Training College.

The vision of the NDA is to produce officers with broad-based training in both military and academic subjects designed to serve as a foundation for the future progressive development of officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

And as for its mission, it is to provide each officer cadet with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to meet the requirements of a military officer through military, academic and character development.

Important notice

It should be noted that students who do not have their O-Level result form or applicants with awaiting results cannot apply for th NDA.

Also, only results that are a maximum of five years old from the date the examination was taken will be accepted.

Again, even though the admission is open to both males and females, female applicants, admission is limited to the Navy and Air Force

Generalised requirements

  • You must have completed your Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC or NECO) or a GCE O’ Level with at least five credits passes in not more than two sittings. With a minimum of credit pass in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Admission into the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Military Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, requires a minimum of credit passes in two relevant supporting subjects with credits in all compulsory subjects.
  • For the Faculty of Engineering, credit pass in only one supporting relevant subject with credit pass in all compulsory subjects is required.
  • The age for admission  is between 17 years old and 21 years old as at the time of the admission.
  • Have a height of at least 1.68 meters for a male applicant or 1.58 meters for female applicants.
  • You must physically and medically fit with proof and you must have good moral character.You must be single without any legal obligations to support another individual for the period of your training.
  • Must have a Certificate of State of Origin from your Local Government Office or a Certificate of State Indigene from your state governor’s office.
