MAIN GOALS – GENERAL ACTIVITIES – FIELD OF EXPERTISE
The Ministry is responsible for developing and implementing the government’s policy on habitat and urban development. On housing, this includes developing and implementing urban and rural areas improvement plans; implementing social housing policy; monitoring the implementation of housing standards.
In urban development, this includes drawing up and monitoring the implementation of urban development and restructuring strategies;
- developing and implementing integrated urban social development strategies; developing and implementing urban infrastructure management strategies together with the Ministry of Public Works;
- developing and implementing strategies to improve traffic in urban centers; generally improving the urban centers; planning and monitoring urban development; monitoring the preparation of urbanization master plans;
- monitoring the implementation of sanitation and drainage standards and the removal/treatment of household waste; liaising with international organizations on urbanization together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry works closely together with the relevant local authorities and oversees the Société Immobilière du Cameroun (Real Estate Company of Cameroon – SIC). It is involved in numerous projects in cities and housing development.
