A Look Back at Previous Year’s Performance

In 2024, the national pass rate for the GCE was 60.8%, a decrease from the 67.6% recorded in 2023. This drop was largely attributed to a tightening of examination integrity measures. The O-Level recorded a pass rate of 62.5%, while the A-Level stood at 61.2%. The Centre Region boasted the highest pass rate at 66.3%, whereas the Far North had the lowest at 50.5%. Notably, denominational schools demonstrated superior performance, achieving pass rates of 84.5% at the O-Level and 86.1% at the A-Level.

In-Depth Look at the TVEE 2025 Results: Trends, Top Schools, and Challenges

The newly released results for the Technical and Vocational Education Examination (TVEE) offer a detailed picture of Cameroon’s technical education sector. The outcomes reveal both impressive successes and ongoing challenges, highlighting key performers, popular specialties, and areas that need more attention.

Top-Performing Institutions

Several schools demonstrated exceptional results, with some achieving near-perfect pass rates. Christ the King College in Tiko led the pack with a flawless 100% pass rate, as all eight of its candidates succeeded. KOM Comprehensive High School, Anyajua, also performed remarkably well, posting a 93.75% pass rate. Other top performers include Government Technical High School Kumbo (86.96%), City College of Commerce Mankon (75.68%), and Comprehensive High School Bambui (75.00%). These results show the strong performance of some mission-run and private institutions.

Largest Examination Center

Government Technical High School Buea maintained its status as the country’s largest examination center, with 723 registered candidates. Of these, 321 were successful, resulting in a 47.21% pass rate. While this pass rate is lower than that of smaller, top-performing schools, the sheer scale and diversity of specialties offered at this center remain significant.

Highlights from Technical Trades

The exams covered a diverse array of technical fields, including Civil Engineering, Accounting, Electrical Power Systems, Automobile Repair Mechanics, Bespoke Tailoring, and Marketing. Civil Engineering—Building Construction continued to be a highly popular and successful specialty, with numerous candidates passing at centers like Government Technical High School Nkwen and Institut Tonji in Douala.

Gender Diversity and Performance Trends

This year’s results highlighted a positive trend in gender representation, with female candidates excelling in fields traditionally dominated by men, such as Electrical Power Systems and Civil Engineering. At the same time, specialties like Home Economics and Secretarial Administration continued to show strong female enrollment and performance.

The overall results reflect a performance gap between different types of schools. While many urban and mission-run institutions saw high pass rates, some public schools, particularly those with high enrollment, struggled. A notable example is Cameroon College of Commerce Kumba, which recorded a pass rate of just 21.05%.

These results provide valuable feedback for all stakeholders in the education sector, affirming the successes of some schools while also underscoring the need for greater support and resources for underperforming institutions.
