African and African Diaspora Fellows for Infrastructure 2022. Our work in infrastructure in particular aims to improve lives by creating inclusion and connecting people to opportunities. The challenges are huge: Globally, 840 million people live more than 2 kilometers from all-weather roads, 1 billion people lack electricity, and 4 billion people lack Internet access. To continue to expand the infrastructure team’s impact and value to work on these critical development issues, the World Bank has created a fellowship program dedicated to African and African Diaspora candidates. The program aims to welcomes outstanding candidates who are citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries or those who hold the citizenship of other countries but trace their ancestry to Sub-Saharan Africa, such as African-Americans, Afro-Latin-Americans, Afro-Caribbean, and others.

What is the objective of the Infrastructure African and African Diaspora Fellows Program?

Who is eligible to apply to the INF AAD Fellows Program?

The 2022 Recruitment cycle for this Program is open to all candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa or of African descent such as African Americans, Afro-Latin Americans, and others. 

What types of candidates are you looking for?

We are looking for talented young professionals that are passionate about International Development, are eager to receive first-hand experience working in one or the infrastructure areas of the World Bank Group and have the desire to learn and contribute to the WBG’s mission of eradicating extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. 

What are the minimum requirements to be eligible for the INF AAD Fellows Program?

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of a World Bank member country
  • Preferably have a master’s degree and minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Be fluent in English
  • Be committed to International Development
  • With Sub-Saharan Africa or of African descent such as African Americans, Afro-Latin Americans, and others 

What are some of the desired fields of studies and focus areas of the advertised positions?

Economics, Transport, Public Policy, Law, International Relations/Public Affairs, etc. 

Where will the appointments be located?

Appointments will be based mainly in Headquarters, Washington DC with one potentially located in one of the World Bank Group country offices. 

What type of contract will the Fellows receive and what is the length of the contract?

The Fellows will receive an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) appointment for an initial one-year period, which may be renewable for an additional year- subject to the ETC lifetime maximum of 2 years. The Fellow’s ETC appointment will be subject to the World Bank Group’s policies. 

Will the Fellows be able to apply for staff positions within the WBG?

While the Fellows of this arrangement would be able to apply for vacancies there would be no guarantee of employment with the World Bank Group beyond the contract period.

Yes, you can apply if you meet the eligibility criteria. 

Is there an age limit to apply?

There is no specific age limit established however the INF AAD Fellows Program is designed for young professionals such as recent graduates, preferably with a master’s degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience. 

Can I be interviewed from my country or do I have to travel to DC?

Once the interview date is set by the hiring unit you will be interviewed from your country via Videoconference.
