A level results day 2022: When are GCSE, A level, T Level and other results days?

Just as it has always been for years, the A Level Results Day 2022 is look awaited by candidates who sat for the examination. So, When are GCSE, A level, T Level and other results days?

According to BTecs and the government’s new T-levels, and university admissions teams, students are facing a last-minute scramble for university places as the A-level results in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are expected this Thursday 18th of August 2022.

According to the head of the universities admissions service, this year’s A-level results were “never going to be pain-free”, as students are told to prepare themselves for lower grades and increased competition for university places.

Again, the Ucas chief executive, Clare Marchant, said the government’s policy of reining in grade inflation in order to bring results gradually back to a pre-pandemic level, had been necessary but it was “not easy”.

The government and Ofqual introduced a number of exam adaptations, including advance notice of some topics, designed to mitigate lost learning, but even England’s higher education watchdog, the Office for Students (OfS), said students should be prepared for the disappointment this Thursday.

After record results last year, when 44.8% of grades were either A or A* at A-level, this is expected to fall to 35% (up from 25.5% in 2019). While almost one in five (19.1%) grades were A* last year, this year the proportion is expected to decline to 13.5%. Similarly, the number of A* to C grades is expected to go down from 88.5% in 2021 to 82%.

“Ofqual wants to bring the grading down but if you compare that to – certainly what I’ve seen – some schools’ predicted grades, they have accepted that in general that results will go down but not necessarily for them,” John Blake, the OfS director for fair access and participation, told the Telegraph.

“That could lead to a lot of students feeling quite disappointed on the day that their grades don’t match up to the grades that they were expecting. And I think it’s important for people to prepare themselves a bit for that and to acknowledge that.”

When will pupils get their GCSE results?

GCSE results day will be on Thursday 25 August 2022. Schools and colleges will let pupils know how to collect their results. In most instances, pupils will be able to go to their school or college and collect their results in person and get advice and support from their teachers if necessary. Alternatively, they can make arrangements to receive them via email or another means by speaking to their school.

A level results day 2022: When will students get A level and AS level results?

A level and AS level results will be available on Thursday 18 August 2022. Schools and colleges will let students know how they should collect their results. Often it will involve popping into school or college – and students may wish to do this to get help and support from their teachers – although results can be mailed to students and opened at home or sent via email.

Students applying to universities via UCAS will be able to track their applications online.

When will T Level results be available?

T Level results day is the same day as A level results day – Thursday, August 18 2022.

When will results from other vocational and technical qualifications (VTQs) like BTECs be available?

Results for Level 3 VTQs which are used for progression in a similar way to A levels will be issued on or just before A level results day (Thursday, August 18) and results for Level 2 and below VTQs which are used for progression in a similar way to GCSEs will be issued on or just before GCSE results day (Thursday, August 25).

Other VTQ results will be issued throughout the year as usual.

Schools and colleges should be contacting students directly to tell them how and when to collect their results.

If you are collecting any results this year and have questions you should contact your school, college or another assessment centre.

What time will UCAS update with A level results?

You will be able to check whether or not you have been accepted into the university of choice at the same time as schools open for students to collect – 8 am on Thursday 18 August 2022.

Don’t panic if your UCAS hasn’t updated at that stage, though, as sometimes it can take a few hours for it to come through on the system. It is a busy day after all.

Appealing A Level results

Quite often students will find themselves right on a grade boundary, either above or below. For those who are a little less fortunate, desired results may be just a few marks off and in this instance, students can appeal the decisions previously made by exam boards.

Students can also appeal if they believe a mistake has been made. The appeal process may be especially relevant for those who have marginally missed out on a university place as a result of being just below a required mark.

For A levels and AS levels, you can ask your school or college to request a review from the exam board. If you’re a private candidate you can contact the exam board directly, or contact the school or college that submitted your exam entry.

For other qualifications such as a BTEC or an NVQ, grades can be appealed directly to the awarding organisation.

Every submitted appeal will go through the same process. The exam board will check your work for marking mistakes and your mark may change if they find any. If your mark changes your overall grade may also change, whether that be higher or lower than the original.

If you think the exam board did not handle your appeal properly, you can request a review from Ofqual. Deadlines for appeals vary by the exam board, but if appeals are made on or soon after results day, there will be no issues at all.
