Botswana experts warn of heat wave

The Botswana government on Tuesday warned of searing heat over the next couple of days as the country prepares for the agricultural season that kicks off later this month. In a notice, the government said maximum temperatures are expected to significantly rise across the country, reaching heatwave thresholds.
“Very hot temperatures of 37 to 42°C are expected over most parts of the country,” the notice said.
Maximum temperatures in the capital Gaborone are expected to average 38°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Francistown and Shakawe are forecast to reach 40°C and 42°C, respectively.
The weather experts called on the public to take necessary precautions such as taking a lot of water and avoiding being in direct sunlight.
It is traditional for Botswana and neighbouring countries to experience heat waves in October, just before the commencement of the rainy season that runs from this month until April of the following year.
